Lenten Schedule at St. Agnes Parish
Prayer. Fasting. Almsgiving.Spending time with God. Following His way. Doing for others. Pray with us at St. Agnes Parish, 1484 Ninth Street, Green Bay. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday. What will you do with your Blessed Palm received that day? Consider weaving it into a cross and give it to someone you have offended. Holy Thursday’s focus is the Mandatum or foot washing ceremony. Think about coming forward this year to have your feet washed as a commitment to serving the Lord. Good Friday consists of two uniquely different services (not Masses). The 1pm Service is the traditional Good Friday service with the reading of the Passion, Veneration of the Cross and reception of Communion. The 5:30pm Tenebrae is the Service of Light and Dark; readings from the Passion, music and reflection are its highlights. This year’s Easter Vigil welcomes one Catechumen (adults to be baptized) and seven Candidates (adults received into the Church). Please remember them in prayer.
Good Friday Again this year our parish will have two Good Friday services. The 1:00pm Service will highlight the reading of the Passion of Jesus, Veneration of the Cross and reception of Communion. The 5:30pm Service is the Tenebrae Service, a service of light and darkness, along with readings commemorating the last events of Christ. Download or print our Lenten Schedule ![]()

| Fasting and Abstinence during Lent | |||||||||||
The Catholic Church asks each of us to help preserve the penitential character of this season. For this reason, Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays in Lent and Good Friday. In addition to abstaining from meat, Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, until they celebrate their 59th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Those who are bound to this regulation may only eat one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. As Catholics, these minimal penitential practices should not be lightly excused.
